INFO
Discover the incredible story of the coastal schooner Daring, which was beached during a westerly storm in 1865 and re-emerged from the sands of Muriwai Beach 153 years later. In this presentation, Baden will share the Daring's rich history, remarkable recovery, and significance in preserving New Zealand’s maritime and social heritage from the mid-1800s.
Baden comes from a family deeply connected to the sea, with maritime roots tracing back to 1814 in Cornwall. His father, Howard Pascoe, was a pioneering dinghy designer and builder, best known for his dory creations at Whitianga. One of Howard’s most iconic boats, “John Dory,” will be a floating exhibit at this event!
Baden is a true maritime historian, co-founding the Auckland Maritime Heritage Working Group and Auckland’s Tug and Towboat race, now a key part of the Auckland Anniversary Regatta. He has written extensively on maritime history, with articles featured in Professional Skipper Magazine…
