INFO

The 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race was marked by one of the worst disasters in the event's history, as a severe storm struck the fleet, leading to the loss of six lives and five boats. Of the 115 starters, only 44 yachts finished, making it one of the most tragic and challenging races in yachting history. In this interview, Jason reflects on his personal experience in the race that triggered the largest peacetime search and rescue effort in Australian history, sharing insights from the preparations, the storm’s first warning signs, and his eventual rescue.
